DU ragging victim claims students’ body Gen Secy Ujjal Ankur Borah part of group that ragged him

The newly-elected General Secretary of Dibrugarh University Post Graduate Students’ Union (DUPGSU) Ujjal Ankur Borah is now under scanner after Ananda Sharma, the Dibrugarh University student now fighting for life after he jumped from his hostel building following atrocious treatment in the name of ragging, claimed he was part of the group of students who had tortured him forcing him to jump from the hostel building.

Anand Sarma’s sister said her brother has claimed that Ujjal had snatched his mobile phone when he was being tortured in the name of ragging on Saturday night.

Anand also claimed that he was threatened by the general secretary to not disclose any information about the ragging incident to anyone.

Meanwhile, another accused in the Dibrugarh University ragging incident was arrested on Tuesday night.

The arrested accused student has been identified as Subhrajit Baruah. He becomes the fourth student to be arrested by police in the sensational ragging case while Rahul Chetri, a former president of DUPGSU and the main accused in the ragging case, is still on the run.

Dibrugarh police had earlier arrested Simanta Hazarika, Niranjan Thak and Pranjit Baruah late Sunday night following express orders from Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

On the other hand, a total of 22 students from the university have been temporarily suspended for their alleged involvement in the ragging case.

Notably, Anand Sharma, an M. Com 1st semester student and a resident of PNGB hostel was tortured and beaten up by some students of the University. Unable to bear the inhuman torture, Anand had jumped from the second floor of the hostel on Saturday night. He is battling for his life in ICU.
