Guwahati: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s cops under the spotlight in Assam after the posse of policemen accompanying Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee misbehaved with journalists in Guwahati today.

Security personnel of accompanying the TMC ‘misbehaved’ with a section of journalists in Guwahati during his visit to Guwahati to inaugurate an office of the party.

A section of journalists, who were at the ITA auditorium in Guwahati, alleged that they were ‘misbehaved’ by Banerjee’s security personnel.

The security personnel from Bengal police also reportedly told the scribes to “wait and see after three years”. This particular statement is being seen as an apparent intimidation by cops and hinting at TMC forming the government in Assam after the 2026 elections.

Journalists boycotted the meeting of the TMC leader and sought an apology from him.

Banerjee, however, came out from the meeting venue and apologized to the journalists although he failed to soothe frayed nerves.
