COVID-19: Assam Government to announce Red, Orange, Green Zones on Sunday

Guwahati: To stop the spread of COVID-19 across the Assam, the state government will announce some of the districts of Assam as Red and Orange zone on Sunday evening.

Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the state government will strictly follow all the rules and regulations of the extended lockdown.

Dr. Sarma also added that on Sunday, at 3 PM, the state government will announce all the names of the districts which will come under red and orange zone. These zones will have to follow all the rules and regulations given by the government post May 3.

From May 5, around 5000 thousand COVID-19 tests per day will be done across Assam.

On Thursday, Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma declared Bongaigaon as red zone after four COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the district. Importantly, all the four COVID-19 patients from Bongaigaon district are without any contact history. This was stated by Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. The four patients are—Anupam Thakuria of Chaparakata, Dipak Mallik of Abhayapuri Amguri second part, babita Basfor of Swahid Bedi, and Meena Biswakarma of Railway Colony.

Earlier, Nalbari and Golaghat along with Dhubri, Goalpara and Morigaon were grouped as red zone districts by the Union Health Ministry in April. On 30th April, people of Nalbari and Golaghat districts had a big relief after Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the two districts no longer remained red zone districts. As no new positive cases were reported in these two districts in the past 28 days, they were now clubbed as green districts.
