Coronavirus: People in Assam welcome Janta Curfew

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: People in Assam have welcomed the Janta Curfew announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In his address to the nation PM Modi on Thursday urged the people to follow a 14-hour Janta Curfew on Sunday 22nd March and remain indoors. The prime minister requested citizens to cooperate with the Janta Curfew on Sunday. There has been no reported case of Coronavirus in Assam or in Northeast India.

“The Janta Curfew is for the benefit of the public. We must ensure that we don’t suffer like China and Italy where the situation is very grim at the moment. It has been told that we are in the second stage and the third stage is looming large. PM Modi had said that there is no medicine for Coronavirus, so his call for Janta Curfew is valid. We should be alert, aware and informed to fight this pandemic,” said a resident of Kaziranga.

“It would be better that we should cooperate and follow the Janta Curfew announced by PM Modi. We will all stay at home and try to create awareness on Coronavirus disease,” said a resident of Golaghat.

“We are journalists and we have to cover the news. My only request to the public is we should follow the Janta Curfew on Sunday. If we can break the 12-hr chain of the Coronavirus our chances of survival will improve. As Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that we have to be very alert till 5th April, I think, we should be careful till the Bihu time. One more point is, though the rate of sanitizers and masks have been fixed, availability is still a concern. The government should take steps to make these protective items available to general public,” said a journalist from Assam.
