Coronavirus: Doctor Couple from Barpeta Medical College put on quarantine for 14 days

GUWAHATI: A husband and wife both of whom are working at Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital, Barpeta have been put on quarantine after it has come to light that they had traveled to Saudi Arabia.

The doctor couple had recently visited Saudi Arabia and returned back to India on March 9. They continued with their regular practice from March 11 and performed several surgeries. However, they did not inform anyone about their Saudi Arabia journey.

They are now being kept in isolation and the authorities have sealed the operation theatre at Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital.

“Since the couple has come from abroad and Coronavirus outbreak has hit Iran, Iraq and United Arab of Emirates, they have been asked to remain at homes for precaution. The couple has been kept in isolation at their homes for 14 days,” said Dr. Dhrubajyoti Borah, principal of Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital.

“The two junior medical officers went to Saudi Arabia. They returned to India on March 9. They are in home quarantine for 14 days. They will be under active surveillance for 14 days. We will take appropriate steps if we find any symptom,” said an official of the medical college.
