GUWAHATI: Amid growing Coronavirus concerns, the Bihu committees in Guwahati have decided not to organise any cultural programmes in the upcoming Bohag Bihu. The decision was taken on Friday by a coordination committee of 26 Bihu committees in Guwahati.
“We have cancelled all the cultural programmes to avoid mass gathering. Because tens of thousands gather to enjoy Bihu functions. If possible, only the rituals will be observed in the Sankranti morning. The decision was taken at a meeting at New Guwahati Bihu Committee auditorium in the presence of representatives from 26 Bihu committees of Guwahati. We should take care of the health of the citizens as well as the artistes,” said Kailash Sarma, a functionary of Latasil Bihu Committee.
Sarma also mentioned that the cultural programmes will be remain deferred till the government doesn’t give a ‘go-ahead.’
He also urged all other Bihu committees of Assam to respond to the government’s call to avoid mass gathering.
“I hope all the Bihu committees of the State will take a similar decision,” Sarma added.
