Guwahati:  Let me tell you a story. A real life story which began from what I saw on reel. Where a man dressed in a jacket, wearing a charming smile slowly raised his arms in a mustard field. For a young child aged five, I still vividly remember the entire theater erupt into whistles and claps when the girl on screen came running and hugged him. I had never seen anything like that before. I sat there quietly with a huge smile on my face, looked at the man—the man with open arms–wiped my tears and hushed, “I have found my hero.” That is what Aditya Chopra has given many of us through his iconic movie Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ).

Aditya Chopra’s trendsetting romantic cult masterpiece, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), completes 25 years on October 20, 2020.

Marking the 25th anniversary of ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ or ‘DDLJ’ featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol on October 20, Tuesday, a bronze statue of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol is set to be unveiled at Leicester Square in London. The statue will be a part of ‘Scenes in the Square’ movie trail.

Making the annoucement, Taran Adarsh tweeted, “UPDATE… Bronze statue of #SRK and #Kajol to be unveiled at #London’s #LeicesterSquare to mark 25th anniversary of #DDLJ… Will be unveiled in Spring 2021… The first ever #Bollywood movie statue erected in #UK… #DDLJ is directed by #AdityaChopra.”

The movie that initially hit screens on October 20 1995, has a tremendous fan following across all generations. With the dynamic duo, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead, along with power-packed performances from Amrish Puri, Anupam Kher, Parmeet Sethi, Mandira Bedi and Pooja Ruparel, DDLJ went on to become an inspiration for love stories in India. A quarter-century post its release the movie continues to spell magic on the Bollywood fans like never before.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge follows the incredible journey of the charming Raj and contrastingly conservative Simran, who fall in love while vacationing in Europe. The couple takes audiences across India, London and Switzerland as they cross multiple hurdles before the famous ‘Jaa Simran Jee Le Apni Zindagi’ moment.

The movie that set the trend for romantic comedies in Bollywood and inspired fashion in the 90s, continues to garner immense love from all the Bollywood Deewana’s across the country.

In a bid to commemorate the timeless movie and offer Indian viewers a slice of Bollywood’s golden era, Sony MAX and Sony MAX2 will showcase a special telecast of the longest running film in Indian cinema at 12 PM and 7 pm respectively.
