CM Sarma extends greetings on Bhai Phota and Bhai Dooj

Guwahati: On the occassion of Bhai Phota and Bhai Dooj, Assam chief minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma extended his greetings to the citizens.

Taking to the Twitter CM Sarma wrote, “Let us celebrate the sacred and unbreakable bond between a brother and sister on Bhai Phota or Bhai Dooj. I pray to God that the wishes of all mothers and sisters are fulfilled.”

Earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi also greeted the nation on the occasion of Bhai Dooj.

Bhai Phota, Bhai Dooj or Bhatri Dwitiya is a Hindu festival which celebrates the bond between a brother and a sister.

On this day, sisters pray for their brothers to have long and happy lives by performing the Tika ceremony and brothers offer gifts to their sisters.

As per Hindu traditions, it is believed that Goddess Yamuna fed her brother Yamraj on Kartik Dwitiya at her own home. Since then this day is known as Yama Dwitiya.

Bhai Dooj also marks the end of Diwali festivities. Bhai Dooj is observed on the Dwitiya Tithi, Shukla Paksha of the Kartik month.
