GUWAHATI, Aug 20: After Russia’s moon mission, it’s first in 47 years, failed with Luna-25, its space craft, spinning out of control and crashing into the lunar surface, all eyes are now on India’s Chandrayaan-3 which is all set to land on the moon on Aug 23 (Wednesday) at 6:04 PM, the ISRO announced today.

The spacecraft is now just three days from making a soft landing on the South Pole of the moon. If successful, India will join an elite list and become only the fourth country after the United States, Russia, and China to achieve such a feat.

“Chandrayaan-3 is set to land on the moon on August 23, 2023, around 18:04 Hrs.” ISRO said in a tweet.

Launched on July 14 this year, Vikram , the lander module of Chandrayaan-3, successfully separated from the Propulsion Module on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Russia’s hopes of making a successful lunar landing ended in disarray with the Luna-25 spacecraft which was launched to make soft-landing on the south pole of the moon crashed on the lunar surface, the space agency Roscosmos confirmed on Sunday. The Russian Space Agency said that the crash occurred due to a deviation between actual and calculated parameters of the propulsion maneuver which led Luna-25 to an unintended orbit resulting in a collision with the lunar surface.
