Cattle, cosmetic items worth Rs 57 lakh seized along Indo-Bangladesh border

Guwahati: Smuggling activities seem to continue unabated in the Northeastern states of India despite strict security arrangements and clampdown by both the central and state governments to prevent trans-border crimes and smuggling.

A team of Border Security Force (BSF) seized cattle, trucks, cosmetics, and other smuggled items worth nearly Rs 57 crores in separate operations on the night intervening night of November 16 and 17.

The BSF team intercepted the trucks and caught two drivers of the trucks along with 56 cattle from Rattachara and Kuliang area of East Khasi Hills and East Jaintia Hills district.

However, the truck drivers and handyman managed to flee, leaving their vehicle behind.

The seized cattle and trucks are said to be amounting to about Rs 40 crores.

In another operation, the BSF team seized 10800 Cardila Skin cream worth Rs. 15,66,000 in AOR, Umsyiem.

Meanwhile, the BSF has intensified its operations on the Indo-Bangladesh Border to prevent such crimes and smuggling and trans-border crimes in bordering areas of Meghalaya.
