Guwahati, Dec 18: “There is no future of Assamese language if we don’t read books written in Assamese,” observed noted journalist and prominent literary figure of Assam Homen Borgohain on Tuesday.
Inaugurating the Nagaon Book Fair 2019 at Nehrubali, Borgohain urged people to cultivate the habit of buying and reading Assamese books. He said that people should read those books which make them brood over different facets of life.
“If you really love your language, if you want to protect your language, then you should buy and read more Assamese books,” said Borgohain.
“Quest for wisdom is the objective of reading books,” the renowned writer added.
Along with Homen Borgohain, noted academicians Dr. Kandarpa Kumar Deka, Dr. Karabi Deka Hazarika, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Nagaon Jayanta Kumar Borah attended the inaugural event.
Besides the participation of leading publishers and book sellers of the state, the 8-day Nagaon book fair will witness various cultural and literary programmes.
