GUWAHATI, Nov 6: Republican candidate and former US President Donald Trump has cruised to victory, securing a second term as President of the world’s most powerful nation defeating present Vice-President and Democratic party candidate Kamala Harris.
Although an official declaration is awaited, the former President has already touched the magic figure of 270 electoral votes and will thus secure a second term in office at the White House after a four-year hiatus.
“Nobody expected us to win this big, America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate, Trump said addressing jubilant supporters at the Florida Convention Centre.
“United States hasn’t seen anything this big”, he added.
“This is a political victory that our country has never seen before. I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honour of being elected your 47th President and your 45th President,” he further said in his victory speech.
