GUWAHATI, Oct 10: Tennis great and 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal, considered among the greatest players to have ever played the sport, today announced that he will retire from professional tennis at the end of this season.
In a video message posted on social media, the 38-year-old Spainard said his last tournament will be the Davis Cup Finals in November, where he will represent Spain.
“It is obviously a difficult decision, one that has taken me some time to make. But in this life, everything has its beginning and an end, and I think it’s the appropriate time to put an end to a career that has been long and much more successful than I ever could have imagined,” he said.
Of the 22 Grand Slam titles he has won, the Spaniard clinched record 14 French Open titles.
