GUWAHATI: Though the Assam government has imposed weekend lockdown in the state to contain COVID-19 infection, a large number of people thronged Beltola weekly market in Guwahati on Sunday defying lockdown rules.
Buyers and sellers gathered at the market on Sunday morning violating all the COVID-19 protocols. Most of them did not wear masks and cared nothing about maintaining social distance. Gatherings were noticed at the shops selling fish, meat and vegetables in the market.
“Some people have even come from Nalbari. How can they come as there is a ban on inter-district movement except Mondays and Tuesdays,” said a Guwahati resident.
Meanwhile, police arrived at the market and asked the traders to close the shops.
