Border Talks: Assam delegation called on Mizoram CM today

PUBLISHED:

After releasing a joint statement following a crucial inter-state border meet in Aizawl on Tuesday, the Assam delegation led by ministers Atul Bora and Ashok Singhal held a meeting with Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga today.

And not just this, the Assam delegation is also slated to meet Central YMA officials around 11:30 AM today.

Well, just to remind our viewers here that Assam and Mizoram released a joint statement wherein both states agreed to resolve the border dispute amicably and maintain peace along the border.

Besides, it was also decided that DCs of border areas will meet at least once in 2 months. It was also agreed that economic activities and cultivation will continue along the interstate border.

The next high-level meeting of the two states will be held in Guwahati in October.

Meanwhile, the crucial meeting to resolve the border dispute between the two states was held at Aizawl in Aijal Club with the delegations from both states.

The Mizoram government was led by home minister Lalchamliana while the Assam delegation was led by Assam ministers Atul Bora and Ashok Singhal.

Noteworthy here is that the Mizoram and Assam delegations had met in August last year to find a lasting solution to the vexed border issue after a violent clash broke out in July last year.

This was followed by two rounds of virtual meetings. In the virtual meets, both sides agreed to lift the talks to a high level and Assam was entrusted to frame modalities for the next talks.
