Boost for Assam’s road connectivity: 57,617 Kms Road to be developed

GUWAHATI: In a move to boost road connectivity of Assam, the state government will transform 57,617 Kms of State highways and Major district and other Roads under the flagship Asom Mala scheme.

A total of Rs. 550 crore has been allocated for the ambitious scheme in Assam Budget 2020-21. The decision was announced by finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in his budget speech.

On the other hand, 1000 timber bridges of the state will be converted to RCC structures. Rs. 250 crore has been earmarked for the upgradation of industrial roads in seven districts of Assam.

The ‘Asom Mala’ scheme has been hailed by the different sections of the state as it is expected the flagship scheme will give much-needed impetus in developing the road connectivity of Assam.
