‘BJP to remain in power, Sonowal to continue as CM’

Amid the protests and the hullabaloo over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, and the AGP parting ways, the BJP will certainly remain in power in Assam and that Sarbananda Sonowal will continue to be the Chief Minister of the State. This significant statement has come from BPF supremo and BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary who reiterated that he and his party will not sever ties with the BJP and that there is no threat to the Sarbananda Sonowal Government.

The BTC Chief was speaking at the foundation stone laying function of Northeast Military School at Bijni in Assam’s Chirang district.

Hagrama further said he welcomes the Centre’s decision to grant tribal status to six communities of Assam and sought to sooth frayed nerves among existing groups and communities enyoing Scheduled Tribe status that their rights will not be infringed upon.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who addressed the gathering after laying the foundation stone, reiterated that the Government will not take any step that will adversely impact indigenous communities of Assam and that his government was committed to protecting “Jati-Mati-Bheti” as had been the party’s slogan in the run-up and during the 2016 assembly polls.
