BJP gets ready for ‘Booth Ki Baat’ in Assam

PUBLISHED:

Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has been in the midst of a massive campaign for the forthcoming Assam Assembly Elections 2021, has begun its poll preparations at the grassroots level.

The party is set to prepare a preliminary survey on how many votes the ruling party will get in the assembly elections in April-May, and also, how many votes the opposition will get. To this end, a special meeting will be held at each booth on Sunday, 29 November. The meeting, is scheduled to be held simultaneously from 9 AM to 11 AM in the state BJP’s 26,000 booths, and the meeting is named ‘Booth Ki Baat’.

State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass has already directed all state, district and grassroots level leaders and activists to participate in the ‘Booth Ki Baat’ meeting. Each BJP worker will be present at his or her respective voting booth during the meeting, irrespective of the party or ministerial post he or she is holding.

“Just like Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ the BJP is also organising ‘Booth Ki Baat’ in which apart from discussions, interactions and poll exercises we will also do a review of how many people per booth have been benefitted by the various schemes launched by the government. This will help us know whether anyone has been left behind and plan accordingly,” said Utpal Sona, a BJP worker from Amoni.

It is to be noted that BJP, which has set up booth committees to prepare grassroots workers for the elections, has come up with this special plan to garner the support of the voters in each of the booths. As part of this plan, ‘Booth Ki Baat’ is being conducted at 26,000 booths across the state.

However, this election has become quite challenging compared to the last Assembly elections of 2016. The Congress-AIUDF alliance, the break-up of the alliance with the BPF, and the emergence of two regional parties are likely to change the electoral equation this time around.

Survey to find weakness

With this in mind, the ruling party has already conducted an election survey in each of the booths to find out the weaknesses of the party and the number of votes held by the opposition.

State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass said in this regard that a meeting will be held under the chairmanship of the booth presidents from 29 November to discuss the voters’ lists of their respective constituencies. An equation will be drawn up of the number of voters on the electoral roll that voted for the BJP in the 2016 assembly elections and voted against.

After this meeting, the BJP activists will go door-to-door to seek the support of the voters, targeting the voters. After that, a report is to be prepared in each booth and sent to the BJP State Committee. The party or the government will prepare a plan based on these reports before the election.

Therefore, every leader and activist of the party has been given clear instructions to attend the meeting which will be held at the grassroots level before the elections.
