GUWAHATI, Feb 9: Bangladesh shocked defending champions India by 3 wickets (DLS method) to lift their maiden ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup at Potchefstroom, South Africa.

Chasing 178 runs for victory, the target was revised to 170 in 46 overs following a brief spell of rain meaning the Bangladeshi colts needed just seven runs off 30 balls with three wickets in hand when play resumed.

Bangladeshi skipper Akbar Ali, who remained 43 not out, guided the team home to clinch their maiden world cup title after a historic run-chase.

Earlier in the afternoon, India were bundled out for 177 runs in 47.2 overs after being put into bat by the Bangladeshi captain. Yashasvi Jaiswal, fresh from his unbeaten century against Pakistan in the semi-final, top scored with 88. Tilak Varma made 38 while Dhruv Jurel added 22 runs to the total.

While Akbar Ali was named Player of the Match, Yashasvi Jaiswal was named Player of the Tournament.
