GUWAHATI, Feb 12: The chief priest of the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, Acharya Satyendra Das, passed away at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) in Lucknow after suffering a brain stroke, the institute stated in a statement issued to the media.
Acharya Das was 83 at the time of his death.
He was shifted to the Neurology ward of the hospital on February 3 after suffering a brain stroke on February 2 but breathed his last today.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condoled the demise of Acharya Satyendra Das, and said: “The demise of Acharya Shri Satyendra Kumar Das Ji Maharaj, the supreme devotee of Lord Ram and the chief priest of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, Shri Ayodhya Dham is extremely sad and an irreparable loss to the spiritual world…”
Reports stated that his last rites will be performed by the banks of the Saryu river in Ayodhya on Thursday.
