Assam’s language, culture, heritage, land will be completely protected: CM Sonowal


GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has assured that Assamese will be prevalent in all aspects of the state and there will be no compromise in its identity.

“No one in Assam needs to be worried about the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. CAA will not threaten our regional existence. State and central government have taken necessary steps in this regard,” said CM Sonowal in his speech at BJP Booth Sammelan today at Khanapara, Guwahati.

Assuring the people of the state, CM Sonowal said, “Assam will always be in the hands of Assamese. Our language, culture, heritage and land will be completely protected.”

He also alleged that some unscrupulous elements have been instigating the people of the state unnecessarily.

“No Indian Muslim citizen residing in Assam needs to be worried. PM Narendra Modi has taken the responsibility of security of every Indian Muslim citizen,” CM Sarbananda Sonowal further added.

Hitting out at Congress and Left parties, Sonowal said, “Bharatiya Janata Party has never betrayed any person, any society and will never do. Our character is not like that of Congress and Left parties. Bharatiya Janata Party has been voicing in favour of indigenous communities of Assam since its inception.”

He also remembered the contribution of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and BJP towards the Assam agitation.

Sonowal also mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s love for Assam, “It was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who promoted ‘gamosa’ of Assam worldwide. Even 10 country heads and their wives were felicitated with ‘gamosas’ by PM Modi. Honouring famous singer Dr. Bhupen Hazarika with the Bharat Ratna posthumously Narendra Modi has proved that he has high regards for Assamese culture and literature.”

With the reference of recent unrest over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, CM Sarbananda Sonowal praised the integrity of the BJP workers, “The way you have faced the current situation with integrity and tolerance, you have sent a strong message to the 3 crore and 30 lakh people residing across the Barak-Brahmaputra valleys, hills and plains of Assam. You have conveyed the message that the grassroots workers of Bharatiya Janata Party are devoted, honest, capable, eligible and determined enough.”

Reaffirming BJP’s commitment for the development of the state, chief minister Sonowal stated, “Harmony is our strength, friendship is our inspiration.”

“We will give land pattas to 1 lakh indigenous people within March of this year. We have also helped indigenous literary bodies to safeguard the dignity of every tribe and community,” the Assam chief minister announced in the rally.
