PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: The Pramod Boro-led United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) has taken an early lead in over 20 seats as counting of votes continues for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) polls. UPPL was leading in 20 seats with a mix of narrow and comfortable margins till noon. The voting for the 40 constituencies of BTC ended on 10 December.

Till noon, Saturday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was leading in 7 seats, BPF in 10 seats, GSP in 2 seats and Indian National Congress and AIUDF in just one seat.

Though it is just the first round of counting, a clearer picture will emerge after 2 PM. The results of the first round of counting are yet to be announced.

The major setback so far is for the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) which is leading in just 10 seats. The BPF that ruled the BTC for 15 years is facing major anti-incumbency with serious allegations of corruption and embezzlement of government funds. BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary was trailing from in both the seats that he contested from.
