GUWAHATI: A group of 22 persons has been quarantined in middle Assam’s Sonitpur district as they had travelled from Dhubri district which is a COVID-19 Red Zone. The group arrived in Khonamukh mosque in Sonitpur from western Assam’s Dhubri district. The local residents informed the government authorities about their arrival from the COVID-19 hotspot. Later administration and police sent all of them for quarantine.
According to the government norms, people from the five “Red Zone” districts in Assam –Dhubri, Nalbari, Goalpara, Morigaon and Golaghat—are not allowed to travel out of the districts but incoming passengers are allowed. Questions have been raised about the movement of these people from a Red Zone district despite stringent regulations and vigil. So far, Dhubri has reported 5 COVID-19 positive cases.
