GUWAHATI: The Barak Valley in southern Assam may go under total lockdown from August 26 to September 4 as the region has been witnessing surge in COVID-19 cases, Karimganj deputy commissioner (DC) told media persons on Saturday.

“We have talked to the chief secretary. He informed us that there is a possibility of announcing a total lockdown in the entire Barak Valley from August 26 to September 4 if the chief minister approves. It has not been confirmed, but there is a possibility,” the DC said.

He asked the citizens to prepare themselves for the lockdown and stock-up the necessary items.
