Assam: Sonitpur district administration issues guidelines on curfew

GUWAHATI: Sonitpur district administration in middle Assam has issued certain guidelines on curfew to combat COVID-19. In an official order issued by the deputy commissioner of Sonitpur Manvendra Pratap Singh stated the following points:

Movement of persons is banned between 6.00 P.M. to 6.00 A.M.

Use of private vehicles and commercial passenger vehicles is banned between 6.00 P.M. to 6.00 A.M. (except for emergency services namely medical services, police, fire services and emergency response for restoring telecom and electricity)

This order shall come into force with immediate effect throughout the Sonitpur district and shall remain valid for the lockdown period.

Meanwhile, all the retail shops in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district will remain closed on Sundays amid COVID-19 lockdown.  Only the pharmacies, health establishments and fuel pumps will remain open on Sundays.

“This order is passed ex-parte and comes to force with immediate effect. Any violation of this order is punishable U/S 188 Indian Panel Code (IPC),” stated in an order issued by the additional district magistrate Ranjit Konwar.

“Emergent steps required for containment and prevention of spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the district and in view of the preventive measures prescribed by the Government of India and the Government of Assam to enforce social distancing among public during the extension of the lockdown,” the order added.
