GUWAHATI: Amid controversy over Congress-AIUDF alliance ahead of assembly elections in 2021, popular Assamese singer Babu is set to join the Congress party on August 25. The singer who was actively associated with anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) has planned to contest assembly elections in a Congress ticket.
“I was active in the anti-CAA movement. Since, the Congress also opposes the act; they offered me to join the party. I am joining on August 25. If I fight elections, I will contest from West Guwahati constituency,” the singer said.
He also revealed that singer Anupam Saikia and music director Ajay Phukan would also join the Congress. Both Saikia and Phukan were at the forefront of the anti-CAA movement.
