PUBLISHED:

Guwahati:  Suspended Congress MLA  Sherman Ali Ahmed from Baghbar constituency hinted  in no uncertain terms of quitting Congress as he claimed that none of his supporters have advised him to abide by the conditions given by the party.

Earlier, Ahmed sought more time from the party to submit his reply to a show cause served to him for allegedly working against the interest of the party and insulting Assam agitation martyrs.

He had alleged of a conspiracy against him by a few minority leaders inside Congress party here.

Ahmed told media, “I have been speaking to my supporters in my constituency. So far discussions were held in 16 out of the 19 panchayats in my constituency and none of the supporters have asked me to stop speaking in favour of minorities of the state. I’ll hold meetings with the remaining panchayats and if everyone unanimously asks me, then I’ll inform Congress high command that I can’t abide by the conditions put upon me.”

The suspended MLA had claimed that the party has asked him to stop making comment in favour of minority Muslims of the state.

However, he also had claimed that two minority leaders were conspiring to oust him from the party.

Assam Congress issued a show-cause notice him for giving statements against party policies and matters with communal overtones having great propensity to destroy the social harmony of Assam. The party also called the Congress MLA as an acting agent of the BJP.
