GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Rs. 20 lakh crore package will benefit a large number of population in Assam, informed Assam health and finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at a press meet in Guwahati. Talking to media persons, Dr. Sarma said that, one crore women in Assam will get Rs 1,500 crore from the Centre between April and June in three instalments (Rs. 500 in each instalment).
The women with Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana accounts will receive the benefits under PM Garib Kalyan Yojana.
Dr. Sarma mentioned that Garib Kalyan Yojana has provision for 5 KG wheat or rice per person and 1 KG pulse per family for 3 months, Rs. 500 per Jan Dhan account holder per month, free gas cylinder to poor families, increase in MNREGA wages to Rs 202; ex gratia of Rs 1000 to poor senior citizens.
He also stated that Rs 735 crore will come to Assam from the Centre as a part of its three free cooking gas cylinders for 35 lakh Ujala beneficiaries and Rs. 85 crore as a part of the Centre’s one time ex gratia of Rs. 1,000 to 8.5 lakh elderly persons, divyangs and widows.
