GUWAHATI: Assam Police has collected more than Rs. 27 lakh as fines from people not wearing masks in public. Police has collected fines of Rs. 27,31,500 for not wearing masks in public spaces. According to the information from Assam Police, 5463 people were fined across the State as a preventive measure against COVID-19.
Police has requested everyone to wear a mask in public for the safety of all amid COVID-19 pandemic.
Wearing of masks has been made compulsory in Assam under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 (sections 3). Police can impose a fine of Rs. 500 if anyone is found not wearing a mask in public places.
Till now Rs.27,31,500/- has been realised as fines for not wearing a Mask in public spaces. That means 5,463 people were fined across Assam.
