Assam Police arrests five youths involved in honey trapping, blackmailing


Guwahati: With the rise of honey-trapping cases with blackmailing in Assam another such incident was reported from Howli area in Barpeta district of Assam. The Barpeta Police arrested five youths on Monday who are residents of Howli town and were involved in a honey-trapping, blackmailing incident.

The accused made a video of a local businessman and blackmailed him to pay an amount of Rs. 5 lakhs. The businessman immediately took police help and planned to catch the blackmailers.

Following the plan, the businessman agreed to pay the accused the amount. He then dropped the money bag at NH-31(National Highway) near Sapna Dhaba (eatery). Later, when they came to take the money, a team of police led by Howli Police officer-in-charge Pankaj Das and Sub-inspector Ripu Kumar arrested two youths. Based on the information the Police then arrested three other youths who were involved in the crime.

The five accused have been identified as Subrat Basak, Prasenjit Saha, Prasenjit Das, Bhaskar Das, and Nitai Sil of Howli town in Barpeta District. It is to be mentioned that the mastermind of the incident Mohibul Islam is on the run.
