GUWAHATI: Five people died and 26 were reportedly seriously injured in a four-wheeler accident in Nasonkhali, Tangla under Udalguri district on Friday night.
As per reports, the overloaded vehicle was returning from a marriage party in Tangla. The accident took place after the driver of the vehicle lost control and crashed into a roadside tree.
“The accident took place at around 11:30 PM. At least 20-22 people were travelling in the DI. We don’t know how the accident took place,” said an injured person.
The deceased have been identified as Moniram Boro, Johan Kullu, Jiten Boro, Gobindo Boro and Samsuma Brahma.
The injured were rushed to Mangaldai Hospital whereas four among them who were seriously injured were taken to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
“Treatment is going on here in Mangaldai Hospital but those who are seriously injured have been referred to GMCH,” said a nurse at Mangaldai Hospital.
