Assam: Noted musician Kula Baruah no more

GUWAHATI: Noted Assamese music director and singer Kula Baruah is no more. Baruah breathed his last at his Silpukhuri residence in Guwahati at Thursday midnight. He was 82.

Baruah who was a regular artist of All India Radio (AIR) made remarkable contributions to Assamese music industry with several evergreen numbers.

He was born in 1938 in Guwahati. The eminent musician began his schooling at Tezpur. He also studied at erstwhile Cotton College, now upgraded to Cotton University.

Kula Baruah rendered his voice in several popular Assamese movies including—‘Bishesh Arati’, ‘Prabhati Pakhir Gaan’, ‘Shrimati Mahimamoyee’ etc.

Meanwhile, Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter and mourned Baruah’s demise.

“We are saddened by the news of the death of renowned musician Kul Baruvadev…,” he tweeted.
