GUWAHATI: Nagaon Police on Tuesday evening arrested two drug peddlers from Mahariati area near Nagaon bypass.
The two arrested have been identified as Abdul Hanif, a resident of Tripura and Ataur Rahman, a resident of Morigaon. They were caught red-handed with heroin worth Rs. 25 lakh.
According to Nagaon Police, the two peddlers were bringing the drugs from Dimapur and were taking it to Morigaon for the purpose of selling. The car (AS-21G-7266) used for the operaton to carry the drugs to the destination has been seized by the police.
The police had prior information regarding the drugs and were waiting for the two at Mahariati area.
Soon after they arrived, police arrested the two drug peddlers red-handed with 16 containers containing drugs weighing 200 grams each.
The drugs were recovered from a hidden chamber in the trunk of the car.
Nagaon police have taken the arrested to Nagaon Sadar Police Station for further questioning.
It is to be mentioned that Ataur Rahman has been running the drugs racket in Nagaon district for a long time.
