Assam Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury casts vote in Bongaigaon

GUWAHATI: Assam food and civil supplies minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury cast his vote at a polling booth in Bongaigaon constituency on Tuesday. Bongaigaon is one of the 40 seats where polling for the third phase of assembly elections is underway.

Choudhury, a senior leader of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) is seeking a re-election for the 8th term. He has been winning the Bongaigaon seat since 1985. The constituency is regarded as one of the citadels of the regional party.

Speaking to media persons, the senior AGP leader said, “This time, I have received massive response from the people as compared to last seven terms. So, I believe, this election in the Bongaigaon constituency will be one-sided.”

Minister Choudhury is taking on Sankar Prasad Ray of Congress and Dipu Choudhury of Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP).

In 2016, Phani Bhushan Choudhury defeated former AASU leader Sankar Prasad Ray with a margin of 31,320 votes.
