GUWAHATI: Several workers of Assam Mahila Congress joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Guwahati on Tuesday. The Congress workers joined the saffron party at the State BJP headquarters at Hengerabari in the city.
The Congress leaders who had joined the BJP included Ranjita Das, Nilakshi Medhi, Dr. Nilakshi Sarma, Sumitra Das, Anuradha Das Ghosh and many others.
They were welcomed by Assam state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass.
“There are differences between Congress and BJP. For us nation is the first. We keep saying—nation first, party next, your will be the last. But for Congress, individual is above all, then party, nation is at the last for them,” Dass said.
Earlier on Monday, a group of entertainment industry professionals including singer Kallol Borthakur, music director Biman Baruah had joined the BJP at a function in the party office.
