In a video conference with deputy commissioners (DC), superintendents of police (SP) and health department officials on Saturday, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal stated that lockdown norms will remain in force in the state until the instructions from the Centre received.

In the video conference CM Sonowal reviewed and discussed preparations for the next phase of COVID-19. He asked the senior officials to continue the fight against COVID-19 with the help of local MPs, MLAs and ministers. Officials were directed to work closely with ministers in-charge, MPs and MLAs of their respective districts for smooth coordination of works.

The chief minister directed officials to engage NCC, NSS volunteers to enforce social distancing and lockdown rules. He reiterated the need of community participation in quarantining the returnees from other states.

The CM directed officials to work in close coordination with Panchayat Presidents, Gaon Burhas, VDPs etc. in the spirit of ‘Manuhe Manuhor Babe’ and ensure that people coming from outside the state are not stigmatised.

On the other hand, CM Sonowal further directed the officials to engage personnel from other departments (not in active COVID-19 duty) in construction works of embankments which is to be taken up on war footing to deal with the probable flood situation.
