Assam lad Hedayet Ali conquers Mount Everest

Guwahati: Hedayat Ali, who hails from Hajo in Assam, became the seventh Assamese to scale Mount Everest on Thursday morning.

Ali, who is a software engineer and currently settled in California, reached the top of Mount Everest at around 7:30 am.

This is the first expedition of the season to Mount Everest. Hedayet climbed the peak in an International team with 11 other mountaineers.

He also climbed Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe, Mount Acconogua in 2019, and Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa in 2018.

The first Assamese to climb Mount Everest was Tarun Saikia, a resident of Guwahati. He climbed the World’s tallest peak as part of the 1st North East India Mount Everest Expedition and reached the Everest summit on May 18, 2013.
