Assam: Know how Bongaigaon girl infected with COVID-19

Guwahati: Afia Tabassum, a 16-year old girl from lower Assam’s Bongaigaon district tested COVID-19 positive on Tuesday. Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma informed media persons that Afia came into contact with Jamaluddin Haji, another COVID-19 patient from Dhubri who visited Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi.

“Afia Tabassum visited Jamaluddin Haji on March 23. She is the grand-daughter of Jamaluddin. She was under home quarantine,” Dr. Sarma said.

This is the first case in the state detected when the patient was under home quarantine. Samples of 5 other family members of the girl have been collected for COVID-19 tests.

Sarma stated that Bongaigaon district administration has been asked to observe the matter minutely to find out whether the patient came into contact with other persons.

On the other hand, Mafijuddin Ahmed, a 61-year old man from Goalpara tested COVID-19 positive on Tuesday. He was in facility quarantine. The man is also a secondary contact of an attendee of Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi.
