GUWAHATI: Karbi Youth Festival began from Saturday at Karbi People’s Hall of Taralangso under Karbi Anglong district. Karbi Autonomous Council chief executive member Tuliram Ronghang formally inaugurated the main entrance gate of the festival.
The 46th edition of the festival will end on February 19.
In a move to preserve and promote the rich culture of Karbi tribe, the youth festival was organised first time in 1974 at Karbi Club of Diphu.
Later the venue was shifted permanently to Karbi People’s Hall of Taralangso, an outskirt of Diphu.
Besides 26 circles of the organiser Karbi Cultural Society, other cultural groups from various parts of the state and Northeast have also taken part in the cultural extravaganza.
Various events including games and sports, performances of traditional Karbi dances and music have been organised.
An amount of Rs 1 crore 20 lakh has been earmarked as the budget for the festival. The first two days of Karbi Youth Festival witnessed a large number of footfalls and it is expected to rise in the coming days.
On the other hand, Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is likely to attend the festival on its last day.
