Assam: International Airport To Come Up Soon In Silchar

Guwahati: Assam’s Barak valley soon to have an international airport as the formalities related to the project was almost completed. Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was soon to announce about the project during his visit to Barak valley.

Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy informed media that the Centre has already given its nod to the construction of an international airport in Silchar.

Various formalities regarding its project have been wrapped up. “Issues related to the site selection are there, but will be resolved shortly,” he said.

The airport would be set up in an area spread over 870 acres.

Barak valley has a domestic airport at Kumbhirgram, 29 km from Silchar. It is the fourth busiest airport in the northeast after Guwahati, Agartala and Imphal.
