Assam Govt to provide Rs. 2.5 lakh to 8 thousand Namghars

GUWAHATI: The Assam government will provide Rs. 2.5 lakh each to 8 thousand ‘Namghars’ in the state, announced health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.  The financial assistance will be provided under the ‘Asom Darshan’ scheme by October this year.

Dr. Sarma stated that only the ‘Namghars’ will be covered under this initiative. Temples, mosques churches or any other places of worship except the namghars will not get this financial assistance.

Namghars are the important cultural and religious institutions in Assam. It was Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankardeva, the 15th century social reformer and religious preacher who initiated this institution.
