GUWAHATI: Bringing good news for crisis-hit Nagaon and Cachar paper mills employees and their families, Assam health and finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a one-time incentive for the children of the employees of Hindustan Paper Corporation.
Addressing a press meet in Guwahati, Dr. Sarma said, “We will provide one-time incentive to the children of the regular and serving employees of the HPC. Those who are studying medical and engineering or other similar professional courses in Assam or outside the state will get Rs. 1 lakh incentive.”
“We have decided to provide a one-time incentive of Rs. 75 thousand to those children of paper mills employees who are pursuing post-graduate degrees or doing research,” minister Sarma announced.
On the other hand, students of graduation, polytechnic and similar courses will be provided with an incentive of Rs. 50 thousand. The government will grant Rs. 25 thousand to the students of higher secondary and equivalent courses.
Children studying up to class ten will also be granted with a Rs. 10 thousand one-time incentive.
“The students have to apply through an online portal. The link will be made available on January 14”, minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma added.
He also stated that deputy commissioners would verify the eligibility of the applications and approve the same. “State government has been supplying electricity to the quarters of two units of Hindustan Paper Corporation for a long time. Crores of electricity bill have remained unpaid in these two units. We have not charged the bill or not disconnected the electricity supply to avoid any adverse impact on the employees and their families,” Dr. Sarma further added.
On the other hand, minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced an Under Interst Subsidy Scheme for Divyang employees of the state government under which government will provide an interest subsidy of 4% for the purchase of two-wheeler, cars and multi-utility vehicles.
