Assam Govt not to announce new restrictions despite record COVID-19 surge

PUBLISHED:

Guwahati:  Despite the record surge in COVID-19 positive cases in Assam, the state government has decided against pressing the panic button and will not enforce newer restrictions.

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday ruled out imposing fresh restrictions in the state saying hospitalisation due to the third wave of COVID-19 in the state is minimal and that only 12% of those testing positive have been admitted to hospitals.

Incidentally, Assam had recorded 8,072 fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.

The present restrictions that were announced earlier this month had advanced the night curfew 10 PM to 6 AM while schools in Guwahati were shut till class 8 and those in the other districts were closed till class 5.

Unvaccinated people are also barred from public places and offices.
