Guwahati: The Government of Assam has declared October 30, 2021, as paid holiday in Assam.

The Assam government issued a notification regarding the holiday to all factories. plantations (including tea plantations), Shops and commercial establishments, establishments for public entertainment or amusements, contractors establishments, firms, and such other industries/workshops, commercial and business establishments, and banking institutions.

The paid holiday has been declared for the above establishments within the jurisdiction of the 28 – Gossaigaon. 41 – Bhabanipur, 58 – Tamulpur. 101 – Mariani and 107 – Thovvra Assembly Constituencies to enable the workers/employees to cast their votes in connection with the bye-elections to the Assam Legislative Assembly, 2021 of the said constituencies.

The by-elections in the above-said constituencies are scheduled for October 30.

As Assam has a total number of 126 constituencies in the legislative assembly, if BJP crosses the magic number of 64 alone after this by-election then it will become the only dominating political party in the house and will be able to free themselves from the alliance, with UPPL and Asom Gana Parishad, if wanted.

The bye-elections for the vacant Majuli seat, which was left vacant for the AJP, have yet to be scheduled because its representative, Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal, resigned from the assembly hours after the Election Commission announced the poll schedule.

Counting of votes will be held on November 2 and the full election process will be concluded by November 5.
