Guwahati: As per the direction of the Guwahati High Court, the Assam government has deployed 1000 police and CRPF personnel to carry out a huge eviction drive in Lumding area of Hojai district to clear the encroachment in Lumding Reserve forest. The eviction drive is underway and it will continue till Tuesday.

The Guwahati High court on 30th September 2021 directed the Assam government to clear the encroachment in the reserve forest in phase manner.

Reportedly, the government will clear about 500 out of 1,410 hectares of encroached land of the forest on Monday and Tuesday.

Meanwhile, elephants and JCB’s are being used for the eviction drive.

Hojai Deputy Commissioner Anupam Choudhary has said that presently the situation is normal in the area and nearly 99 percent of the families have already left after they were counselled by the district administration to leave the place.

While informing that around 1,000 police and CRPF personnel have been deployed, Hojai Superintendent of police Barun Pukayastha said that deploying forces is a normal procedure.

The eviction is going smooth as the settlers understood the order of the High Court during the counseling .
