Assam: Dreaded Child molester injured in Police firing

Guwahati: A dreaded criminal, Rajkanta Daimary, accused of molesting four minors,  was shot at and injured in Assam’s Morigaon district on Wednesday night while trying to escape from police custody.

 A police spokesperson said the 55-year-old criminal had allegedly molested 3 children aged 5, 6, and 7 respectively of Jengorbori village in Laharighat Police Station of Morigaon district on Wednesday. Police arrested Daimary from Amtola upon receiving complaints.

 Daimary was shot at by police while trying to escape from the crime scene while being taken to the spot for investigation.

The police said that the incident took place while the accused Rajani Kanta Daimary was taken by a police team from Laharighat PS to the crime scene to recover a stained undergarment of one of the victims.

The injured criminal is currently admitted at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

The police had registered a case under sections 376 AB and R/W section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act on December 20.

Morigaon district Superintendent of Police Aparna Natarajan said, “On December 20, a case was registered at Laharighat police station against Rajani Daimary for allegedly molesting three minor girls, between the age group of 5-7 years. We nabbed the accused person from the Amtola area on Wednesday. After the statements recorded of the minor girls we came to know that there is a 4th victim too. And the minor girls were molested repeatedly.”
