Assam DGP given heroic welcome as he joins office after defeating COVID-19

GUWAHATI: Assam director general of police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has rejoined office on Tuesday after emerging victorious in the fight against COVID-19. He had tested positive on August 10. After remaining in home isolation on the first day, DGP Mahanta was shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) the next day.

He tested negative for COVID-19 on August 31.

Mahanta was accorded a heroic welcome at Assam Police headquarters in Guwahati when he returned to work on Tuesday.

Top cops including GP Singh, L R Bishnoi, Harmeet Singh and other officials and personnel welcomed the DGP with a round of applause.

On the other hand, in a poignant note, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta wrote on Facebook, “The enthusiasm that my colleagues greeted me after a few days of returning to the office has been a source of courage and inspiration for me.”
