Guwahati: Amid COVID19 crisis and the 21-day nationwide lockdown, there have been allegations of anomalies in government schemes and sanitization drives in different parts of Assam.

According to news reports, serious irregularities have been observed during the sanitisation drives in some villages under various Gaon Panchayats in Nalbari district. The authorities are allegedly sanitising the villages with a little amount of bleaching powder mixed with water. Allegation of corruption has been raised against a contractor named Aijul who is supplying bleaching powder to fire and emergency services.

On the other hand, the president of Bardal Gaon Panchayat under Rangia revenue circle has resorted to corruption in the name of financial aid to the families who do not have a ration card. The president has allegedly paid Rs. 500-700 instead of allocated Rs. 1000 to the poor families who do not have a ration card under the Food Security Act. “I have got Rs. 500 from her (president),” said a beneficiary under the Panchayat.

On the other hand, 50 bags of rice meant for the government’s Public Distribution System (PDS) were recovered at Fakirganj under Dhubri district. According to news reports, a section of unscrupulous people were planning to transport and sell the bags of rice in Meghalaya.

Meanwhile, secretary of Bahumukhi cooperative Committee in Dhanubhanga under Goalpara district was detained for selling PDS rice.
