Assam: Corruption charges against Congress MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi

Guwahati:  Mariani Congress MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi in problem after Assam Chief Minister’s Vigilance team lauched a probe into the misuse of MLA’s funds in Jorhat district of Assam.

The Vigilance team has been collecting information on corruption in the Mariani Constituency between 2011 and 2016.

In this regard, information from the Jorhat’s DC office was collected yesterday and a full-fledged investigation will be launched from today.

 In 2018, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dulen Nayak lodged a complaint with the Chief Minister’s office over the allegations.

According to the complaint, funds were allocated in the name of various development schemes including the Community Hall of the Mariani Assembly constituency from 2011-12 to 2016-17.

A number of guidelines were also laid down for the utilization of the funds.

Accordingly, the committees involved in the construction of houses had to release the second installment only after the submission of the first installment utilization bills of the approved funds and the approval of the appropriate. However, in the case of allocation of funds, this rule has been completely violated and even after spending huge amount of money, the community hall and other houses construction works have not started till date.

After Duleen Nayak lodged a complaint regarding this massive irregularity and misuse of the money, the Chief Minister’s vigilance team sent a letter to the Jorhat DC office seeking necessary information, but the office did not respond.

Finally, the investigation team of the monitoring cell arrived in Jorhat today and started the investigation against MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi.
