Assam police on Friday recovered the body of coal miner Pranjal Moran, who had been missing for the past three months, from an underground mine at Tirap Colliery in Assam’s Tinsukia district.

Pranjal Moran was missing since January 6, 2023, from Tirap Colliery, Ledo.

As per sources, a massive search operation was launched under the supervision of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jitmal Doley to find out the body of Moran.

Following the operation, the body was retrieved inside the underground mine in the area.

Meanwhile, the police arrested three persons in connection with this case.

The arrested accused have been identified as Gopinath Gogoi, Sanjay Mura, and Krishna Tasa.

Taking to Twitter, Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh wrote, “Assam police has kept its promise to Smt Urvashi Moran. The mortal remains of Late Pranjal Moran have been recovered by a team led by IGP Jitmal Doley.”

“We remain committed to a further lawful action,” Singh added.

As per Pranjal’s wife, her husband went missing on February 1. She was informed the very next day by the coal trader that Moran had died in an accident while working inside the mine and that his body could not be recovered.

On February 4, Pranjal’s wife lodged an FIR with Ledo police station. However, she alleged that the police did not take any action regarding her complaint.

Meanwhile, she was also reportedly offered compensation of Rs 5 lakh by the coal trader, which she refused.
